January 1 - The Eight Maids-a-Milking are the 8 Beatitudes

Read Matthew 5:3-10 which is where Jesus teaches about his Kingdom

Have you ever heard people describe Jesus’ Kingdom as an “upside down Kingdom”? People say that because what Jesus talks about is actually backwards from our world. In our world today, the people who are rich, powerful, and strong seem to be the most important.

Those who are poor, sick and weak are often rejected or ignored. But Jesus said that those who the world normally overlooks are actually the ones Jesus pays special attention to! Did you read what Jesus said about the poor in spirit, the mourners, the meek, and the hungry? Can you think of a person who would fit each of the descriptions that Jesus talks about? Maybe you see yourself in one of the descriptions.

Do you know another surprising thing about Jesus’ Kingdom? He invites us to be part of it bringing it to earth! When Jesus describes the Kingdom, he is imagining that we will partner with him. How can you partner with him in bringing about the Kingdom today - in your home, in your neighborhood, in your school, and in your communities?
